The Women’s Cooperative in Rwanda that make superb coffee. (on sale here!)

We are very happy to add this coffee to our portfolio. This coffee is produced by a co-operative called KCRS that was created and is organised by Women of Rwanda. They are based in the Rulindo district of North Rwanda, a region of sloping mountains and a huge lake. The region’s 100%-85% female run coffee farms use the Kinini Coffee washing station that was set up by a charity in 2008 and is an essential part of the local industry.

The KCRS (Cooperative Coffee Rusiga Sector) Women’s Co-operative and the coffee that they produce are a success story for a community that suffered so dreadfully in the early 1990’s. KCRS is part of Rwanda’s re-building post genocide.

The coffee that KCRS produce is very well received in the industry and highly respected and that is enough for us to enjoy it. But we also note a profound respect for the Growers.

Rwanda is a small country located in the heart of Africa, known for its stunning natural landscapes, vibrant culture, and exceptional coffee. The country has become one of the top coffee producers on the African continent, with high-quality beans that are sought after by coffee enthusiasts around the world. One of the organizations leading the way in coffee production in Rwanda is the KCRS Women’s Growers Organization, which is focused on empowering women in the coffee industry and promoting sustainable, ethical coffee production.

The KCRS Women’s Growers Organization is a cooperative that was founded in 2008 by a group of women who were passionate about coffee and wanted to create opportunities for women in the industry. Today, the organization has more than 2,000 members who are spread out across several coffee-growing regions in Rwanda. The organization’s mission is to empower women by providing training, resources, and support that enable them to become successful coffee growers.

Coffee production in Rwanda is a vital part of the country’s economy, and the KCRS Women’s Growers Organization plays an essential role in the industry. The organization is committed to promoting sustainable farming practices that protect the environment and promote the long-term health of the coffee industry. They work with their members to ensure that they are using the best possible techniques to grow their coffee beans, including using organic fertilizers, implementing shade-grown coffee, and employing effective pest management strategies.

The KCRS Women’s Growers Organization is also focused on improving the quality of the coffee produced by their members. They provide training and resources to help women improve the flavor, aroma, and overall quality of their coffee beans. This includes workshops on coffee cupping, which is the process of evaluating the sensory characteristics of coffee, including its aroma, taste, and body. By improving the quality of their coffee, the women in the organization can command higher prices for their beans, which helps to increase their income and improve their standard of living.

The KCRS Women’s Growers Organization is also committed to promoting ethical and sustainable coffee production. They work with their members to ensure that they are paid fairly for their coffee beans and that they are not exploited by middlemen or buyers. By providing direct market access to their members, the organization is helping to empower women and provide them with a path to economic independence.

In addition to their work in coffee production, the KCRS Women’s Growers Organization is also involved in several community development projects. They have established a savings and credit cooperative, which provides financial services to their members and helps them to save money, access credit, and invest in their businesses. They have also established a daycare center, which provides a safe and nurturing environment for the children of their members.

In conclusion, the KCRS Women’s Growers Organization is an essential player in the coffee production industry in Rwanda. Through their commitment to empowering women, promoting sustainable farming practices, and improving the quality of their coffee beans, they are helping to build a strong and sustainable coffee industry in the country. Their work is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives and the potential for coffee production to drive economic growth and social development.
